Runaway Youth

Runaway youth is one of the top three causes of homelessness. Stable house is important factor for develop a positive child. The homeless families with children have increased every year because their parent cannot affordable housing. According to National Center for Children in Poverty (2009) explained that there are more than 1.5 million children live in families without home, 42 percent of these children are under 6 years old. Moreover, 47 percent of these children are African-American and, Indian-American and Alaska native backgrounds are 49 percent. Burt (2009) explained that unaccompanied youth are estimated 1.6 to 1.7 million children become the runaways and homeless each year. Ringwalt ,Greene ,and Robison (1998) concluded that there are divided the runaways youth to three main groups; such as, runaway youths who lives in the street overnight without parents’ permission, throwaway youths who do not have home because parents force them to leave out from home, and independent youths who have a conflict with their parent or lost contact with parents . Ray (2006) concluded that the 20-40 percent of throwaway and independent youths is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. The important factors that contribute youth become to homelessness are violence at home. The United States Conference of Mayors (2007) concluded that among the runaway youth in shelter, more than 80 percent experienced house violence, they are experienced with fight and physical or emotion abuse from their family members. These youths have a same characteristic like their counter with traumatic experience.
