It’s been said that “... the Institute for College Access and Success has taken a hard line against Obama, calling the program a "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing." (Osterndorf). This institution feels like President Obama plan insinuates that tuition is all that matters and that “these free-tuition plans are also ticking time-bombs … and flat-out ignore the other costs of attendance that determine whether students can get to campus, whether they’re focused on the material or how to pay for their next meal while in class, and whether they have a place to sleep at night." (Osterndorf). It's[i] argued that “ even if the students who need this program the most do benefit from it, and even if it helps offset the other overhead costs that attending college comes with, that still leaves the obvious cost of education beyond the covered two years” (Osterndorf). [j]A student was interviewed and says ‘she worries whether she will be able to continue to pay for classes when she transfers to University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in two years. “I can barely afford to live right now as it is. My paycheck just goes to groceries and rent,” (Rochleau). Which goes to show that although free tuition would be helpful the college life experience is way more than just tuition.
In Conclusion, President Obama’s plan in theory sound like it has the potential to be great and it sound like it can be beneficial to students who are attending community colleges all over, but this plan is flawed in many ways and there has yet to be any talk on how to fix it. President Obama has yet to give any specific details as to how this proposal is going to be maintained and or how are all the other costs of being a college student is going to be covered which has left people to have a lot of concerns. This proposal has also raised a lot questions that have also yet to be answered such as what happens when he’s no longer the president and the new President or Congress has to make budget cuts or we face another recession and even how will we sustain this program. These are just a few questions that have been brought up when after this plan was proposed. President Obama has a lot of planning to do if he wants this plan to become realistic enough to be taken serious. It’s not enough to just propose a plan, there are steps that need to be taken in order to make the plan work out. Even though President Obama’s plan was inspired by Tennessee and it worked out them doesn’t automatically mean that it will work here unless the necessary steps to making this plan work starts to be work on. President Obama needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with solutions on how to get this proposal going, but to also find the solutions to all the questions that have been asked since he made his announcement to begin with. Again in theory President Obama’s plan sound very beneficial to millions of students in America regardless of whether they are part-time or full-time because there will be a higher amount of student who will enroll in school also the requirements are fair can be easily maintained and reasonable. Free tuition will be one less things students have to worry about out of all the other things while attending college, but unfortunately the in this case bad things about President Obama’s proposal outweighs the good the good things and if President Obama doesn’t come up with solutions to fix all the flaws in his proposal then it will be over before it ever actually [k][l]begins[m].
