Jack soon finds out that that his tumor was not responding and he would need surgery to remove the tumor. He was filled with anger and was also very nervous. After the surgery, he was not able to speak and had to write on a dry erase board to communicate. He started to let his wife, Ann, back into his life. Jack and Ann fought at first because he had shut her out of his life this whole time and depended on June for comfort instead of her. He realizes that all she wanted to do was love and support him. Things got ultimately better and Jack wanted to start over with Anne and make things right. Jack beat the cancer, gained a new perspective on life, and learned how to be a better doctor through his illness. When back at work, he was a whole new person. He spent time with every single one of his patients, talking to them and empathizing with their situation. He even has his interns become patients so they truly see what it is like from the other side. He teaches others how important it is to show patients compassion. Jack truly makes a life changing transformation.
After beating cancer, Jack went from a cold-hearted surgeon to an all around caring guy. Throughout his journey, he learned the true meaning of having empathy for his patients. His experience impacted his whole life and allowed him to become the doctor he wanted to be and should be.
