his intentions just because his skin was black. Therefore, Tom Robinson can symbolize a mockingbird because he never meant any harm to anyone because he was kind-hearted and a gentle soul., however those qualities were looked over because he was black.

Another character in the novel who resembles a mockingbird is Boo Radley. Boo Radley resembles a mockingbird he is a kind, brave, and generous man despite what the public may view him as. Through few chapters in the novel Jem and Scout find little gifts “...and [then their] knot-hole stopped [them] again. Something white was inside this time.” (page 59)Later in the chapters they discover that Boo Radley had been leaving them gifts in the mysterious knot-hole in a tree they passed on their way home from school everyday. Jem and Scout had not done anything to Boo for him to be leaving them gifts, but he left them in the knot-hole anyway. This was a kind and generous act that Boo did, and although it was rather mysterious it was never meant to cause trouble for anyone. Also in the end of the novel Bob Ewell attacked Jem and Scout, and when Jem was unconscious an unknown gentleman brought injured Jem home. When asked to identify the man he says “Why there he is, Mr. Tate, he can tell you his name…...Hey Boo.” (page 270). Even though Boo did not personally know The Finches he still brought Jem back to the safety of his home and out of harm’s way. Boo got no reward for helping Jem but he did it anyway because he is caring. Like a mockingbird Boo has done nothing but nice things for the Finches like leave Jem and Scout gifts and help Jem when he was injured.

To kill a mockingbird is a sin, and the act of killing a harmless creature is very common and we don’t realize it. Squashing a bug on the sidewalk for no good reason is the same as killing a mockingbird, and that innocent bug is comparable to any innocent man. And the two characters who should be treated as mockingbirds are Tom Robinson and Boo Radley.
