Chillingworth wants them to be as healthy as possible so the townspeople can judge them and have them feel punished. Roger Chillingworth is affected by adultery because he came home and finds out that his own wife had a baby that is not his. Which makes him curious who the father of Pearl is so they can suffer the punishment.
Pearl is heavily affected with adultery her whole life because she had to live through her whole life. She is a moody, dangerous, and is able to do things that others are not able to do. Now that Pearl have a feeling of who her father is, she says “Doth he love us?” said Pearl, looking up, with acute intelligence, into her mother’s face. “Will he go back with us, hand in hand, we three together, into the town?” “Not now, my dear child,” answered Hester. “But in days to come, he will walk hand in hand with us.” Pearl now asks if DImmesdale will come back to her and her mother. Hester can not love Dimmesdale and go back with him while he is living in a life full of lies. The more Dimmesdale confesses the more Hester acknowledge him as a father. The more Dimmesdale confesses the more it hurts him because he is being punished for what he did. Pearl is considered as the devil child due to Hester and Dimmesdale. Therefore, she is being made fun of but is a very smart and intelligent girl.
All the main character in the novel is affected by adultery. It all started of Hester and Dimmesdale having an affair which Hester ended up being pregnant. Chillingworth comes back to town and finds out that Hester had a baby for which Chillingworth is curious to know who the father is. All of the characters are in a way affected by adultery. Hester has to deal with the townspeople judging her. Dimmesdale is being punished because of adultery and Pearl is being considered the devil’s child.
In conclusion, Dimmesdale finishes his sermon that is mainly focusing on the relationship between God and the communities of mankind. He later on dies, Pearl comes to Dimmesdale in the scaffold and kisses him then walks away in tears.Whereas we find out that Roger Chillingworth have gone away. At the end of the story, Pearl now knows who her father is. Hester still has the scarlet letter on her chest which is means able.
