You have finally made it to middle school. This is where you find out how weird people are before puberty. It is not as glorious as you thought in fifth grade. Just a helpful fact: middle school only lasts (hopefully) three years. Those years may suck a lot, but you will get through it. You will want to “quit school” sixty-eight times before it is over and that is okay. It can only get worse before it gets better. In sixth grade you will get your first set of braces. These things will be life changers for you. No matter how bad they hurt you will be thankful. Pick out every color of the rainbow and mix n match. Nobody will care. There will be a lot of note passing, Facebook making, and awkward hand holding. Every middle school dance is going to be segregated between boys and girls and absolutely nobody is going to dance, but you should at least attend for the humor. This is really a time you will look back on and just laugh because there is nothing you can do about it.
Remember when I told you to enjoy having all of those friends in elementary school? Well I meant it. You are now in high school learning how mean people get. Taylor Swift’s song “Mean” was more than likely written about all of your middle school “friends.” Do not let this bother you, you will grow into yourself during these years and meet tons of new people. High school is magnificent. I really do mean it. Anywhere from homecoming activities and spirit week to FFA camp and prom. Love every second of it. Go to every football, basketball, baseball game. Attend every volleyball practice even when you dread going. You will regret it later if you do not. All these things will come to an end way sooner than you think. Work your butt off for A’s and maybe a few B’s because these are the years that can affect your future. You will soon find you are lucky enough to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. Going to college will hit you like a brick, but you are more than ready. You’ve had more than enough experiences through high school to get through this next chapter.
Childhood self, live life to the absolute fullest. Enjoy your preschool crafts, blow up ABC robots, and spirit week. Make tons of friends and always be there for them. Adore the littlest things throughout your big adventure. Everything will turn out okay. Life can only get better from here.
Sincerely,
Your College Self
