Mercutio is Romeo’s best friend, and normally they tell each other everything… this is until Romeo marries Juliet and tells no one… He didn’t even think about telling his best friend! If he had told Mercutio, no one would have engaged Tybalt into battle causing his own death. Mercutio only wants whats best for his friend Romeo, but when Romeo starts acting strange telling Tybalt that they can’t fight, because he loves him for reasons he can’t explain. Mercutio is probably thinking that Romeo had one too many drinks, or hit his head and isn’t thinking straight, so without knowing he does the only thing he could think of that would get Romeo out of his strange state of mind… Attack Tybalt! If Romeo would’ve been responsible and thought about what could happen to those around him if they didn’t know about him and Juliet, he might have used his brain and told Mercutio that he was married, in which case, Mercutio wouldn’t have attacked Tybalt and would not have gotten killed.
Finally, when Juliet fakes her death, she doesn’t think of the consequences of her actions… She replies on other people whom some she doesn’t even know, to deliver the letter describing the plan to Romeo, in which case, it does not get given to him! This is irresponsible of Juliet, since she could’ve run away any time she wanted to! She thinks very irresponsibly, by not planning backup… for example, if she had used her brain, she would’ve asked Friar Lawrence to watch for Romeo’s arrival, and if he did not get the letter, the Friar would tell him that Juliet was simply sleeping and, that she was not dead! If Juliet had run away with Romeo in the very beginning none of these problems would’ve happened to either of them. Thanks to their irresponsibility, Juliet wakes up with Romeo’s dead body beside her, and has 70 year old Friar Laurene hitting on her, telling her that she could run away with him, since her lover is dead!
To conclude, Romeo and Juliet show that they are not very responsible, causing other characters to think and act rashly, irresponsibly, and responsibly when; Romeo “crashes” the Capulet’s party, when Romeo and Juliet get married and don’t tell anyone about it other than the nurse and finally when Juliet fakes her own death and Romeo doesn’t find out in time, so he commits suicide. In the end, you should always run away… or else a 70 year old man will hit on you!
