My (Your) Attitudes are Killing Me!

1. What is my attitude, right now, to this class? Is it positive, negative, or somewhere in-between?

My attitude towards this class has always been positive as far as the learning goes. The kind of lesson given to us and the different point of views put forward in the class have actually made an impact on my thought process. Now whenever I hear a point of view that I do not agree with, I don’t judge it though I might criticize it.

2. What do I think is contributing to my attitude? Is it something happening to me or is it something happening inside of me that I bring to the situation?

There are multiple factors that contribute to my attitude and those factors are both to me and inside of me. The learning process of the class is very interactive. As growing up in a society where the focus is only on the theoretical knowledge and not on peer-to-peer knowledge, this has made an impact on me and my thought process.

3. What affect might my attitude be having to my level of engagement or to my experience of the course? Am I getting out of it the most possible?

Still being in that phase of looking at a subject just as to get a good grade and it being a subject with no examination I tend to lose interest at the beginning, as most of the class, which also boosted the same. But self-realization about the importance of attitude while working in the team or as an individual brought me back on the track. And as far as getting the most out of the subject, I believe my team mates do have a positive feedback about me, which I believe is very important, and learning from the class has helped me to be a better team member.

4. What affects might my attitudes and associate behaviour be having on others in my sphere (my classmates, teammates, teacher(s), meaningful other, good friends)?

Yes, people in my sphere do impact my behaviour and learning experience and I believe it’s the other way around as well. I always carry a positive and to do attitude with me and it also gives positivity to other around me and that makes me a person to be looked up by most. That’s why I believe I have a positive impact on others in my sphere.

5. What are my general attitudes at the moment to my studies or my experience here? Are they generally favourable and optimistic, or somehow negative, doubtful, skeptical, or pessimistic? Are my attitudes toward different activities and demands distinctive or are they more global. What might this mean? What are the implications?

Mood Swings and Dumb Things!

1. Do I consider myself fairly even keeled or prone to mood swings? Why? Give examples.

Well, the results for me are not black and white. It’s more of a grey area for me. I keep my calm and composed, though I do experience mood swings because of one reason or the other. For example in a basketball game I keep myself and the team calm, but one day when a member of the opponent team member started shouting I just lost my calmness ‘charm’ and got into an argument.

2. What is one example of a situation where my emotions “got the best of me”, that is, where I was ruled by my emotions? Explain the context, what occurred, and what the consequences were.

3. Explain “emotional contagion” and provide an example.

Emotional contagion means that we take mood of others around us. For example, so as mentioned in one of the answers mentioned above I lost my calmness because of the reason that the other team member was shouting displays the transfer of emotions.

4. Describe an instance in class where DrJ showed emotion and what affects it had (or might have had).

5. Compare the example of emotion provided in Item 4 to yourself or some other individual (that is, how you or someone else might exhibit emotion (or not)), and explore the similarities, dissimilarities, effects, and implications?
