Drucker Chapter 21 and 22

I can benefit the community with my specialty.

The first class that I had for this course taught me about one of the important things to survive in this unjust world is to be able to overcome massive failure that I might experience in my life. Fail is not a good word, but I learn that failing is crucial to help me walk on a different path than the one that I used to. One of the inspirational people in the world, J.K. Rowling was once a teacher but then get divorced by her husband, become jobless and penniless with a dependent child. However, she manages to overcome the difficult time in her life and become a well-known writer of the Harry Potter series. Thus, I should always keep in mind that failing does not mean that the world has ended but it is an important phase to start a new path that might be better for my future.

From this class, I just realized that the older we get, the lesser the options that I can have. In the meantime, responsibilities are also getting higher as we grow up. As a college student, I have a lot of freedom to do a lot of things and do not have to worry about filing taxes yet. The options to choose and to do things are much broader for a young people compared to someone that has reached early fifties. For instance, a fifty five years old man does not have the option to be a professional soccer player anymore even though he was a sportsperson in his twenties. He does have the option to continue playing at a high level but the action is actually defying the laws of age in the process. Since I am still a college student, I will set a lot of goals and keep being motivated to do them besides continuing to dream big without any inhibitions.

At the end of the class, I learnt that networking is a very important thing while pursuing for my degree. The activity that was done in the class by introducing every person is very interesting because I am able to know new things and get to know other students. Networking will create a lot of great opportunities and will be able to help me in an unpredictable situation. People do need people. For instance, having a lot of friends is very helpful because there are things that Google will not be able to tell me but only a friend can do such as giving reliable advises. Hence, I will take the chance to build my network when meeting new people and strengthen the relationships that I already have.
