Analyse the process type and layout design of an operation within its supply chain

You are asked to:-

- Define the term demand chain management and visually show your chosen operation with its supply chain

- Suggest the observed process type of your chosen operation and consider as to why it is positioned on the volume/variety continuum

- Consider how the process type influences its choice of layout with analysis of the layout’s benefits and drawbacks in its current form

- Provide a diagram in the Appendix of the layout of your chosen operation which is referred to in your main written commentary of the report to emphasise the impact of its benefits and drawbacks

Critically evaluate as to the impact of the choice of layout upon the objectives of the operation

You are asked to:-

- Identify through your own suggestion the strategic objectives of the chosen organisation, if not known through website research and their relationship with the layout design

- Critically evaluate as to how this layout choice impacts upon the operations performance objectives (cost, quality, speed, flexibility and dependability)

- Make concise recommendation(s) of how layout may be improved (this can be with either short or medium term focus)

Demonstrate understanding of how capacity is managed within your chosen operation through short and medium term plans

You are asked to:-

- Define the term capacity management

- Demonstrate your understanding of the 3 medium term staffing capacity plans (level, chase and manage) through written commentary as to how they are seen in evidence within your chosen organisation

- Suggest how capacity is also constrained within your chosen organisation e.g. space, equipment, financial, staffing etc.
