Therefore it is necessary for students or every individual to avoid such intrusion into their computer systems by having the best cyber security systems. The researchers would want the students be aware of possible threats of cyber security. This study aims to determine the perspectives of the students towards the risks and importance of cyber security.

THEORETICAL BACKROUND

Students in Silliman University have the opportunity to learn a lot in terms of Cyber security because this is a critical and valuable to our society academically. Cyber security systems support business processes by storing, processing, and communicating critical and sensitive business data (Anonymous (nd). The digital age is creating a digital headache for organizations around the world, with cyber attack and data breaches on the rise (Gamboa, 2016). The security that can be achieved through technical means is limited. We live in fast-paced global economy that relies more and more on data and information carried through cyberspace. In the same way, cyber security is as important a need, if not greater traditional security precautions (Anonymous) (nd).

Some importance that can prevent cyber attacks is that you should never use the same password for all of your accounts, doing this is just asking for all your personal information to be stolen, try to create diverse passwords that combine numbers, symbols and other factors to ensure it is safe and help the people to secure their own accounts (Anonymous) (nd). Clearly, not just on a personal level but for world security (and peace), the wired world needs better protection from the growing army of cyber criminals and others who depend on them to spew terrorism and other forms of crime and the cyber security industry needs to be more proactive in getting ahead of criminals (Primor, 2015).

Cyberspace and its underlying infrastructure are vulnerable to a wide range of risk stemming from both physical and cyber threats and hazards (Anonymous) (nd). Sophisticated cyber actors and nation-states exploit vulnerabilities to steal information and money and are developing capabilities to disrupt, destroy, or threaten the delivery of essential services. A range of traditional crimes are now being perpetrated through cyberspace. This includes the production and distribution of child pornography and child exploitation conspiracies, banking and financial fraud, intellectual property violations, and other crimes, all of which have substantial human and economic consequences (Anonymous) (nd). In light of the risk and potential consequences of cyber events, strengthening the security and resilience of cyberspace has become an important homeland security mission (Bova, 2014).

Cyber security is very important for many students in College of business administration because they will able to know how to protect their own accounts, files and etc. from hackers. In this research the students will learn a lot of things about cyber security and prevent cyber-attacks.

THE PROBLEM

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The millennials of our society have been becoming more and more acquainted with the development of new technology. One important factor is the security of their online personal information. With the many risks that are currently present such as hacking, theft and misuse of information, how are the students of College of Business Administration encouraged to safety their personal data and information online? Does cybersecurity guarantee them the assurance of the privacy of their information stored online? Do the students benefit and feel the importance of cyber security?

This study would want to save the following problems:

- What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

- Age

- Gender

- Year Level

- Course

- How often do the students go online?

- How many students are storing their personal information’s online?

- What are the social networking sites that the students mostly use?

- How many students are aware about cyber security?

- What is cyber security?

- What are the students’ possible reasons for the importance of cyber security?

- How cyber security affects the students’ daily lives?

- How many students have encountered problems regarding with their online accounts due to inadequate cyber security?

- What are the possible solutions that the students’ resort to keep their accounts safe?

- How the students view the conditions of cyber security in the Philippines?

- What are the students’ knowledge about the associated risks of storing information online?

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the study are the following:

- To know the profile of the respondents.

- To determine the number of times a student goes online.

- To determine the number of students who store personal information online.

- To determine the mostly used social networking sites.

- To determine the knowledge of the students on cybersecurity.

- To determine the perspective of the students on the importance of cybersecurity.

- To determine the possible risks a student encounters on his/her online accounts.

- To determine the probable solutions to keep accounts safe.

- To determine the perspective of the students on the conditions of cybersecurity in the Philippines.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research paper seeks to know the preference of CBA students enrolled in First Semester SY: 2016-2017 on the importance of cyber security to which the data gathered can be used by online programmers, researchers, CBA students, business sectors and government sectors.
