CHAPTER EIGHT: GUT CHECK: FACING THE FLINCH
Chapter eight was very relevant to my life at this point in time, particularly with the story of Ellen. The transition Ellen experienced, is resonates my experience to transition as well; it is difficult, complicated, trying but knowing what the long term gain is, keeps me motivated to continue forward, facing the flinch and listening to gut instincts.
Below are two sentences that captured my attention in this chapter:
- Fear, guild, regret, grief and stubborn pride are the enemies of our own best self.
- Since we are born into an imperfect world and have lived from birth in an imperfect environment, we soon learn to make imperfect choices.
Grammatically, there were only a few areas that may need to be edited:
- Page 150: first paragraph, second sentence, the word ‘wryly’, not sure if it is a typos and may need to be ‘widely’.
CHAPTER NINE: RADICAL LEADERSHIP
Chapter nine gave me hope. I have worked under negative leaders for many years, and this chapter simply states the truth of what happens to a company with a narcissistic leader; once the leader is locked on the ‘me mindset’. I have read John Kotter’s book on Change and I have read Jack Welch’s book as well, it is uplifting to read this book. Many business books on the market feed into the same narcissistic behavior. I was thought, a leader is only as good as his/her team.
Grammatically, chapter nine did not seem to have errors.
CHAPTER TEN: SHALL WE DANCE? – THE ARE OF WORLD CLASS LEADERSHIP
Chapter ten explains the transformation in becoming an SRPC leader and serves as an excellent resources as a guideline during the process.
Below are two sentences that captured my attention in this chapter:
- The Transformational leader believes that everyone has the ability to be creative, yet understand that mindsets, world views and belief boundaries often get in the way of creativity.
- You always have two choices: your commitment versus your fear. –Sammy Davis Jr
Grammatically, chapter ten did not seem to have errors.
AFTERWARDS
The Afterwards was a summary of the textbook, and a review of key points to remember for the reader or participant. This book give me hope that there possibly is a business that has a ‘we’ factor, a book that uplifts and that there is a manager/leader that implements SRPC in their organization.
Below is one sentence that captured my attention in this chapter:
- A strong culture has healthy communication, trust, freedom to say the truth and conflicting resolution.
