that it is the mitigation and management of potential loss due to an unforeseen internal problem that has the potential to be detrimental to both the organization and its members. This experience influences my definition in that I now understand that there are internal things that happen that are influenced by external forces, and that no matter how prepared the organization believes it is, there can always be organizational threats that can not be predicted.

The article chosen deals with the effectiveness of crisis management teams. The entire responsibility of the team is to predict possible threats to the organization and secure plans to mitigate losses based on the predictions. The article was certainly an eye opener. Often times, there are teams gathered after a crisis occurs to mitigate the loss for the current event. However, if there is a team whose focus is on this year round, then the organization is taking a proactive approach to secure the foreseeable future of the organization. The article also discussed the simulation approach to educating the team. If a team is educated on the potential dangers facing the organization, then they are better equipped to plan for disasters. The article focused on the educational approach to managing a crisis as well as the need for transparency. It suggests that a dedicated predetermined team is better equipped than a makeshift team put together after the fact. This contributes to the success of the organization, and it increases the levels of accountability at the executive level. (Waller, Lei, &Pratten 2014).

Finally, after viewing and reading this week’s resources and article and combining that with my personal experience, I believe that to avoid the negative impact of a crisis event organizations should take a proactive approach to foreseeable events that could have potential negative repercussions. A dedicated team should be on the lookout for potential dangers as well increasing the level of accountability within the organization, including transparency and checks and balances.
