As reported by the writer, Bill Gates was a visionary man. He saw something that not many saw at that time of period. Of course, interest played its part but somehow he knew that growing virtual technology will take over the world in future. His exploration towards the programming made what he is today.

Besides, Bill Gates had his passion on computers and programs. His passion led him to explore more and take the subject as independent study. He also spent almost 10,000 hours of programming experience when he dropped out of Harvard. He knew what his passion is; otherwise he would have ended up in a very bad situation. His passion towards programming had driven him to write and explore more on computers and software.

3. Discuss the leadership profiles based on the AOR model

Refer the Action -Observation –Reflection model below. This model show how the leadership development is enhanced when the experience involves three different processes.

Action:

The action that Bill Gate did is to learn the computer programming and gain as much as experience in the school. He is hungry to attend all the activity related to the new computer. He is willing to spend eight hours a day on the computer.

Observation:

Bill Gate is very sensitive about the market trend. The future he observes is very bright, until he left the university and starts the business of programming. And when the time he left the university, he had accumulated more than 10,000 hours of programming experience.

Reflection:

The time Bill Gate left the university, he knows he was lucky because he had a better exposure to software development than anyone as the same age as him.

4. Consider the spiral of experience in each profile. How has their experience affected their ability as a leader?

I. Perception & Observation

Bill gates attended computer programming testing at a company. There Bill gates spent 8 hours per day, 7 days per week. He observes a lot of programming experience and gain a lot of programming experiences there.

Bill gates also attended TRW as a programmer. There he gained a lot of experience and when he was kicked out of Harvard he had 10000 hours of programming experience.

II. Perception & Reflection

The process of developing the observation into reflection called attribution. Bill gates use his experience in programming to develop new software and become world best software developer.

III. Perception & Action.

Bill gates predict that software market have a huge market. So he started his own software development though his programming experience. This prediction makes a good leader. This happen when self-fulfilling prophecy occur.

Bill gates used his experience learnt programming to become a well-known leader. His technical ability made him a better leader. Currently the leaders in some organization have experience but don’t know how to apply it to be a leader. But Bill gates used his experience to become a leader in the software industry.

5. Conclusions

Overall, we believe the leader is born. But as a leader, they are also having a very good attitude toward the job that they like. They will build their ability and skill in order to be a successful leader. From the Bill Gate case, it is very clear that he know what he want, and he also willing to learn , to gain , and to find all the knowledge that he want to know. This good attitude make him a successful leader.
