- How might using teams in health care settings enhance performance, responsiveness to patients and health care provider motivation?
I think having team-based care would improve performances because doctors and nurses will have more time to their jobs and do it efficiently. The responsiveness to patients will be faster due to the fact the staff can start the initial appointment right when the patient gets there and then pass it on to the next doctor or nurse when they are all done. Which then will get the patient out of the hospital sooner than later.
- What kind of interdependence do you think exists in teams in health care settings.
It depends on each other to do their job on the team, because the team is all working together to care for their patient. Without interdependence the patient would not be happy, and the team idea would not be effective.
- What kinds of norms do you think it would be important for these teams to have?
- Responsible
- Proactive
- Attitude
- Communicate
- Do their job
- Compassionate
- Understanding
- Non-judgmental
- Empathize
- Attention to detail
- Why might it be important for teams in health care settings to have a moderate level of cohesiveness?
They need a moderate level of cohesiveness because they need to do their job effectively, which requires them to work together. To be able to do this, they all need to able to work together, which requires cohesiveness.
What I would do to improve communication with my overloaded staff would be to communicate via email, text message, post-it, or in some other written form with bolded letters saying IMPORTANT on the top so they know it needs to be done. If something is time sensitive, include the time and date the instruction was given. This gives the employee something to refer to and know when it’s needed by. It also helps to maintain accountability; if they know instructions were given to the employee, and a project doesn’t get completed, there is a clear understanding of where the problem lies, and if they keep coming up with excuses maybe it’s time to let them go.
