University is Overrated

You will graduate from University with a massive debt and no guarantee of a job.  For example, at UWA it costs $36,000 to do a 4-year Business degree if you continue on to do a Post Graduate course like an MBA you are likely to finish with more than a $70,000 Uni fee debt.  If you are lucky enough to get a job in a business after you graduate the average annual income would be between $40,000-$50,000 so it would take you nearly 2 years to pay off that debt. Do you want to start you working live with a massive debt?

In 2013, 48 people graduated from a degree in Architecture at UWA, guess how many people got a job after the 4 year course?  4, and they were all overseas, there were not jobs in the field of Architecture in Australia.  Universities are producing too many gradates and there are not enough jobs.

Another pathway to get employment could be through on the job training or apprenticeships.  For example, Microsoft offer Traineeships where you are employed by the company with no qualifications and are trained up by the company to do specific jobs possibly get promoted to management positions if you do well earning money from the day you start and not accumlating a huge debt.

An while we are talking about Microsfot did you know that Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft and is #2 on the Forbes Most Wealthiest People list his net worth  is 90 Billion dollars dropped out of Harvard University after 2 years.  Janine Allis, Founder of Boost Juice

Lots of big companies are offering traineeships rather than taking University graduates because they can train up the person to do the exact job they need.  Another expamle is Rio Tinto now have driver-less mine sites and no University has a course that teaches people to operate these driverless mine sites so Rio Tinto is working with TAFE Colleges to develop training course for the new range of jobs that are now available at driver-less mine sites.  As technology advances jobs change and Universities and TAFE Colleges need to change and adapt.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t go to Uni but there are other pathways to get the job you want that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
