Some people believe that the government should transfer health care service to profit-making companies. To what extent do you agree?
The governments of many countries are planning to hand over health care service to commercial companies in order to ease the financial burdens on the budgets. However, I do not agree with this policy. I believe that it is inappropriate for the government to shrug off the responsibility for citizens’ health.
It is undeniable that transferring health care service does improve the efficiency of the medical service, because the commercial companies will get more profit if they treat more patents. Thus, they are willing to invest sufficient capital to enlarge their capacity. Besides, in order to attract customers, private hospitals and clinics tend to employ excellent doctors and purchase advanced equipment, which enables them to provide customers with accurate diagnosis and effective cure.
However, this medical reform will exert a heavy financial burden on patients. Due to the pursuit of profit, commercial medical institutions will definitely raise the prices of their products and services, which means that patients need to spend more money in seeing doctors than before. Thus, some poor patients will endure pains at home instead of getting treated in time.
Moreover, those whose medical benefits are deprived will have less social responsibility. Because when they are ill, there is no help from other people, who care more about their own benefits, and patients will not make contribution to the community when others are in trouble. As a consequence, the society is going to become an indifferent place, where citizens tend to care less and less about others.
In conclusion, despite some benefits derived from the shift of health care service, such police will exert financial burdens and reduce social responsibility. Therefore, the government should continue to be in charge of health care service.
