To be an effective leader, there are many traits that help maintain a healthy relationship between the leaders and the employees, these traits include; trust, understanding, and good team work. Employers must have trust in their employees in order to operate entirely. Trust ranges from coming to work, to getting the job done, doing the job right, and many more. “Leaders build successful teams and make others feel like owners of the vision by fostering collaboration and strengthening others. They encourage collaboration by emphasizing the cooperative, instead of competitive goals, by seeking integrative solutions, and by building relationships adaptive to change, knowledge of global economics, technology innovation, based on trust, mutual respect, and individual dignity.” (Beirman, 340-341) However, employers must be trusting of their employees in the case that something unprecedented happens. In the work environment, diversity is common, not everyone in the organizations share the same abilities, and unexpected events surely happen. Looking back at the Dish Network Corporation case, the employee’s drive and motivation to show up to work isn’t at a high level, because of Charlie Ergren’s excessive attendance policy. The article “The Cost of Employees Tardiness” says that “Companies should have a set policy for absenteeism and tardiness and should communicate that policy to all employees.” It is understandable that Mr. Ergen wants his employees to come to work, but for the benefit of the company, he should start having trust in his employees and let the absenteeism and tardiness policy plays its part. This allows would allow employees space to breathe a little from Ergen’s constant patrol and make them feel more at ease. Also, in his benefit, he wouldn’t come off as such an uptight leader. If he doesn’t change his bad habits, he is the reason for the discomfort in the company, which leads to high levels of turnover and low productivity.

Overall, these aspects of effective leadership are important to have in the modern day business world. They can positively and negatively affect the relationships between the leaders and the teams. In the long run, effective leaders can improve an individuals’, or groups’ skills to become better in their job performance. There needs be a fine line between trust and respect, in order for employees to feel comfortable and appreciated in their work environments, leaders need to give responsibility to employees and show gratitude. With that comfort and appreciation, employees can work together as teams, and succeed in the achievement of goals.

Modern day management styles are very important for leaders to understand. Today, many of the organizations do not follow the old time management styles, and a lot has changed. Leaders must be adaptable and respectful in today’s ever-changing workforce. Today’s workforce is very diverse, and the cultures of businesses change too. Relationships with employees are important for a leader to have. Leaders need to understand the relevance of teamwork in organizations, unlike the past where he/she can dictate the direction of the teams. This researcher paper will help us in the future, because we have learned what’s important for us as future employees to be effective leaders. Knowing about the many aspects of effective leadership, and the importance of effective leadership in organizations is important for us to attain gainful employment in the future. We will also have a better understanding to why our personality and traits have an effect on being a leader and how discarding any bad habits should be taken into consideration so there can be an impact change that incorporates into bettering the work environment. On top of that, as we learn the many types of effective leadership skills, being employees to different companies and leaders, we now have a better understanding to why leaders act as if they do. Whether we are employees under someone or raising up to be a leader, we can take these effective leadership skills and put it into effect. These skills will not only affect one individual but a whole team as well.

Each one of the team members in our group has chosen a topic to research for our final presentation. We collaborated on our ideas to create a final paper that reflects the importance of effective leadership in business. We have researched the many different aspects of business, and examined the different environments of organizations to get a better idea of how organizations operate. We looked at different company cultures in order to find out what makes them successful or not. By collaborating with each other to piece together a project that successfully describes the importance of, and aspects of effective leadership, we have demonstrated the ability to work in teams and problem solve in groups. Each team member had the opportunity to develop a skill over the duration of the final project. We shared our ideas with each other, and set up times to meet outside of the class to piece our ideas together. We looked at the importance of establishing professional relationships in the business environment. The overall thesis and conclusion of the final paper gives our team members a better understanding about effective leadership, and is something to utilize in our future ventures. The basic understanding of what it takes to be an effective leader will play an important role in our future careers.
