Another common concern about how gender discrimination starts is the things we teach our children. In most families if you are a boy you cannot wear pink, watch girl cartoons, or play with dolls and if you’re a girl you cannot wear blue or any color that represents a male, watch manly cartoons, or play with action figures. For most children growing they are already taught to believe that they are supposed to be this certain gender and nothing else. For example, a parent would get boy to play “manly” sports such as football or basketball while girls would join cheerleading. As parents we need to do a better job in teaching our children that it is okay to be anything you want in life and it should not matter what you television shows you watch or what sports you like regardless of gender, children should feel the need to choose freely on what they want to become in life. A male child would get bullied by other children for doing something your average child would not do. Which leads to him being nervous and shy then that leads to being depressed and it could get even worse than that. Why should it matter if a child freely wants to be a girl, boy, or transgender? “A study found that, in the past year, 75% of these transgender students reported being regularly verbally harassed, 32% regularly physically harassed (e.g., pushed, shoved), and 17% regularly physically assaulted (e.g., punched, kicked, or injured with a weapon) because of their gender expression” (Reisner et al 243). Bullying has affected many trans people to feel ashamed of themselves because of who they want to be and it is just not right.
Globally, gender discrimination is a major problem around the world and not just in the United States. One of the biggest forms of discrimination with genders are sexual harassment, this is the most generic form of discrimination a male or female can experience. Women are among most people who are dealing with sexual harassment to this day. Women experience many kinds of harassment such as sexual remarks, physical harassment, or even be affected by seeing another woman harassed. The effect these types of things can impact a person’s life, according to Aditi Gurung, there was a survey by the Justice Department of U.S. in 2006-2010 that found “the victims of sexual assault had three times more risk to suffer from depression, six times more risk to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder,13 times more risk to abuse alcohol, 26 times more risk to abuse drugs and four times 5 more risk for suicidal ideations” (5). This survey shows how much of a significant impact it is to people who encounter sexual harassment today, it can affect them in the long run. Even in our educational system harassment is still an issue, it can also affect our youth in the long term. The House of Committee was told by parents, teachers, and young people that the consequences of sexual harassment can include “physical and emotional harm, including teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases; girls feeling unable to fully participate in educational and extra-curricular opportunities; teachers spending valuable time dealing with incidents of sexual harassment and bullying; and young people developing a sense that sexual harassment and sexual violence were acceptable behaviors and learning social norms that were carried through to adult life” (Coryton 20). Although men are usually the suspects of this abuse, it does not mean that they are not also victims of this type of abuse. When a man is harassed in public and by a woman who is inappropriately touching and he is telling her to stop usually is ignored by people who are walking nearby. They figure “oh he is a guy he should be lucky a female is touching him” but that is not the case. “Sexual assault survivor Jim Hensey shared his story for the first time publicly. The National Alliance to End Sexual Assault reports that one in six boys and one in 25 men are reported victims of sexual assault. "There are a lot of men out there that have been victims and they don't talk but it's still there," Hensey said. "It's not just a physical thing it's a spiritual thing. It's a battle and Creator is there” (Kelly).
In order to achieve gender discrimination, we must all work together to get it done. We need to increase a variety of genders on official government positions. For example, more women on Board of Directors, president, and managers. Men must also take action whether or not they are the ones affected by it, women cannot be the only ones fighting for gender equality, the more support there is to stop it the more effective the protest will be. Not only in this country should we worry about this but around the world. It starts with our children, they are our future, we need to raise them better and start teaching while they are young that it is okay to be different and they should never treat a person different because of their sex or gender. This leads us to our educational system. What we teach young kids in school can really impact them on how they grow up and what they aspire to be. Schools need to do a better job at teaching about equality for everyone so that they can learn how wrong it is to discriminate a men or women. Also have more strict policies or rules for students in any level of school. The more rules and policies we have on this kind of subject and how forceful we are on them, they will definitely be more effective. When it comes being in a workplace, there should be more female bosses, “if wage determination and career advancement are affected by taste-discriminatory behavior of (mainly male) supervisors and managers, a larger representation of women at the top of the occupational hierarchy is expected to reduce the gender wage gap and provide more opportunities (for women) to be promoted. Second, it has been argued that under imperfect information female managers might be better at inferring other women unobserved productivity hence reducing statistical discrimination towards women” (Lucifora).
To conclude, gender discrimination is everywhere in this world it has gotten worse over the years and it is keep rising, we have been doing such a poor job as humans on trying to overcome this situation. We passed these types of things on to our children and them onto their children. Mankind has been treating each other distinctively on account of a specific sex or what a few people may recognize themselves as. We get a kick out of the chance to feel that man ought to do masculine things lifting and working, while lady then again ought to remain at home watching the children, cleaning, and cooking. All through history we were set to trust these sorts of things to the point where it is fundamentally a customary propensity. These days sexual orientation segregation can happen all over the place,
