Practices
Same –sex parenting fall in the nontraditional family category children in these home show no difference from children being raised in a heterosexual home is this practice effective, yes children are in happy and healthy homes. Attitudes and practices regarding adoption by same-sex individuals varied as a function of the religious affiliation if any of the agency, the type of children the agency predominantly placed for adoption, and the gender of the respondent. Overall, the outcome revealed that while policies, practices, and attitudes vary across agencies, many adoption professionals are willing to work with lesbian and gay prospective parents, and, in fact, a substantial number have experience in doing so (Brodzinsky et al, 2002). This information is only taking in the states that allow same-sex adoption. Research has shown that this is effective in those states but also it has been stated that these couple often obtain the children that has a hard time adjusting to the new homes or problem child.
Successful approach
One major issue that would help to make this same sex adoption more successful is people would stop discriminating against them. These couples are the ones who raise our children who have special needs or need more attention while everyone else laugh or taunt these children, they give them love and support.
Discrimination happens to all to break this cycle and to become more of a unit on this area we can help produce health and happy children. If we continued to separate ourselves from an unknown population we are showing each other that we don’t need a helping hand and we can stand alone.
Social work arena
As a social worker we are the mediator, teacher, and advocate so we need to rise our voices in each state so we want have those children deem as lost or forgotten and as well for the same-sex couple. Instead of discouraging them we should applaud them, because society says no they for them to love and care for a child because of their lifestyle but what about the children, safety love and well being. Society is limiting the chance of the children being love and care for by people who will help them understand that life will knock you down but you keep fighting. Work with the adoption agencies to help create policy for same- sex adoption as well with those states that does not explicitly ban or approve this type of adoption. Create monthly session for the first year if the couples adopt an older child that was hard to place so that we can monitor how he or she is adjusting to the change and the lifestyle that the parent live.
