where N is the number of clubs of the league. In an absolute competition league, the maximum of HICB is always 100 despite its scales; the increase of the index means the decline of the competitive balance.

In addition, the formula of HHI can also be used in testing the state of the champion sharing of processional sports league; in a absolute competitive balanced league with N clubs, every club years can won a champion in every N. In an absolute monopoly league, the same club will win the champion of all seasons, and so HHI is 1[3].

3 A Preliminary Analysis of the Competitive Balance of Chinese Professional League Football Matches and the Cause

3.1 The index of competitive balance of Chinese Professional League Football Matches

The study of competitive balance of Chinese Professional League Football Matches collects the data from season 1994 (the beginning of professionalization reform) to 2007; and the original data is the accumulated points of all clubs in various seasons (see Table 1). The measures of C5CIB, HHI, and Top K ranking are used in the analysis. According to the formula of C5, and referring to the accumulated points of all clubs in various seasons and the ranking in the league, C5 can be computed by that the accumulated points of the top 5 clubs of each season are divided by the total accumulated points of all clubs; further using the formula of C5CIB, adjusted C5CIB of various seasons can be obtained (see Table 2). According to the accumulated points of all clubs in various seasons, scoring average of a club in various seasons can be calculated; and using the computing formulas of Excel, the sum of squares of scoring average of all clubs can be obtained, which is index H; and using the adjusted H formula, the competitive balance index H of various seasons can be computed (adjusted H, see Table 1).

In the four seasons from 1994 to 1997, Dalian won three champions, Shanghai Shenhua Football Club (SFC) won one; in the following 5 seasons, Dalian won four champions, and Shandong Luneng Taishan Football Club (LNTS) won one; in the 5 seasons from 2003 to 2007, there are five teams winning the title respectively. Therefore, using the HHI formula, HHI of champion sharing of each stage can be calculated (see Table 2). According to the ranking of the accumulated points of various seasons, the number of teams in the position of top three at each stage can be obtained (see Table 2).
