sharing or distribution of this information throughout the world.
2. Create conscience among the Mexican people who usually consume Nestlé’s products regarding the danger that it could pose to their health and the environment.
3. Decrease or regulate the sale of products from companies with doubtful nutritional information such as Nestlé in México.
3.2 Description and Realization Context
There is already a canadian web page in charge of informing the population about the reality of falsely “healthy” products, and we plan to do the same in Mexico: create a website in which the truth of Nestlé’s falsely “healthy” products is completely exposed, offering information regarding this problematic in different parts of the world.
Along with creating a web page in spanish (in order for it to also be available and useful for people in various countries of Latin America, which will be part of our target audience), we also intend to:
a. Prepare a campaign of conscientization in Mexico City and the surrounding metropolitan area, with the additional aid of pamphlets. There are many ways in which we can achieve this, for example, by giving pamphlets with a detailed report of the consequences of the establishment of factories from great food and water companies such as Nestlé, and the implicit danger in ignoring the various accusations against it regarding mislabeling, manipulation and pollution.
There are several reasons for which we plan to focus our conscientization campaign in that particular area in the country:
* For instance, since the four members of our team live either in Mexico City or in the surrounding metropolitan area, it will be easier to organize and coordinate ourselves the nearest we are from our hometown.
* Most of Nestlé’s success in Mexico can be traced to the millions of daily sales coming from the capital, Mexico City, which is why it is essential to start sharing this valuable information with people living in that specific area. In a way, they are the ones that need this information the most.
* Since Mexico City, the capital, is the most populated place in Mexico, taking it as our starting point will allow our conscientization campaign to have the greatest impact possible. The map in the next page shows the population density in Mexico in 2015, according to the INEGI (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía / National Institute of Statistics and Geography), to prove this point:
* In Mexico, there are many people without proper access to internet, which may difficult or completely prevent them from learning this information and sharing it with as many people as they can. Because of this, the distribution of pamphlets with the most relevant information as part of the campaign’s main resources can be considered a viable alternative.
b. Send a proposition to the Mexican government to regulate the importation of products with doubtful nutritional information, such as the ones from Nestlé.
The Mexican government has already regulated - and in certain areas, even prohibited - the sale of junk food in schools. This recent policy has been applied for two to three years, which is an example of the gradual but notorious interest of the government in contributing to the improvement of the health of its citizens. Therefore, it is plausible to assume that it will be possible to take similar measures regarding the importation of products from companies such as Nestlé, which have been already accused of violating costumer and environmental rights, manipulating and mislabeling.
In this activity, the main participants will be the four members of our team, though it is part of our intent to create conscience and motivate people from all around the world to share this information, as well, with as many people as they can. This can be achieved mainly through various social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as regular e-mails. It is also important to mention that the four members of our team are capable of creating a webpage, which is why we will not need financial support for it.
The following image shows the basic design of our website. It is important to note that, while the one present in this document is written in english, the final version of it will be written in spanish, as mentioned above, in order for the information to be useful and available to any spanish speaker in the world, particularly in Mexico and other countries of Latin America (our target audience).
As shown in the image below, the information available will focus on the problematics regarding malnutrition due to mislabeling in North America, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as the violation of consumers’ rights and basic environmental laws.
In case our readers are interested in finding more information or in contacting us for any reason, they will have the option of doing so through our social media or even by having a live chat with us to solve their doubts. We also plan to encourage people to get involved, either by being part of our conscientization campaign or by sharing this information.
Our goal is to create, with time, a massive movement, a massive change in people’s mentality and personal choices regarding food and nutrition. Because of this and the fact that we know that some of our readers may not be spanish speakers, we plan to offer a section in which we include the main information, as well as some links to other important web pages addressing this problem in english (or french).
3.3 Explain how the activity or the action you develop will meet the educative intention or the objectives you had fixed to improve the health and wellbeing in our society.
As said before, we wish to create consciousness in our society about the products that Nestlé sells and what they contain. We will reach said objective by creating a web page that will specify in more depth the reality of their products and how they can affect our health and our daily lives. We also plan to send a proposition to the government in order to address this issue in a more concrete way, to promote a stronger, quicker change.
The three educative intentions or objectives of our activity will be met as follows:
The first objective for our activity is to inform the population of Mexico and various other spanish-speaking countries of the accusations against food companies such as Nestlé of violating consumer rights and environmental laws, manipulating and mislabeling, and promoting the massive sharing or distribution of this information
