The components and aspects of PISA Science Literacy that is expected of the student can use scientific concepts in a different context than it has he had learned. PISA looks at science education to prepare future citizens, capable of participating in the community that will be increasingly affected by the progress of science and technology, the need to develop the child’s ability to understand the nature of science, scientific procedures, as well as the strengths and limitations of science. The development of the Science Literacy of PISA 2000-2003-2006, in the 2000 PISA study focused on reading skills, while the other two aspects become an escort. In 2003 the mathematical aspect will be the main focus then forwarded the aspects of science in 2006. Through this annual three expected, we can obtain continuous information about student learning achievement in an effort to find out the level of the quality of basic education in Indonesia in the international sphere. PISA Science Literacy is characteristic of basic capabilities measured, sample and variables, design literacy tests reading, structure and types of discourse.
To help students gain knowledge of engineering and science, the purpose of science education is to help students expand interest of students in science and support of scientific inquiry. Attitudes will be science plays an important role in the decision of students to developing knowledge of science is developing further, mngejar a career in science, and using the concept and the scientific method in their lives. In doing so, the views of PISA science capability will not only proficiency in science, as well as how their properties would be science. The ability of science to someone in it contains certain attitudes, such as trust, motivated, self-understanding, and values (OECD, 2007:16).
