million families to buy food at approved stores. By restricting where the funds can be spent, the program can choose stores that promote healthy eating and therefore encourage nutritional lifestyles. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants and children is a program enacted to provide food with specific nutritional value for children under five and pregnant women. The third program is the National School Lunch Program. This program provides healthy lunches to over 30 million students every day. All of these government programs attempt to overcome the issue of hunger without compromising long-term health.

The Hunger-Obesity Paradox is a serious problem in modern America. Many food-insecure people rely on inexpensive, unhealthy non-nutritious food to survive. This reliance often results in obesity. While many unaffected by this believe the high obesity rate disproves the hunger epidemic, the problem is still prevalent across the entire nation. The government has responded by establishing three programs that provide healthier foods to those dependent on government assistance. The Hunger-Obesity Paradox seems contradictory and implausible, but it is a serious issue that must be acknowledged.
