4. South Africa and its cultural diversity
South Africa, ranked in position 8th most diverse country out of 159 countries in the world [James D. Fearon, (Jun., 2003: 195-222)] with an extremely rich cultural history is probably on par to most examples where (CI) is of utmost importance. In a country dealing with issues such as racism, sexism and discrimination, it is essential to have adequate policies and procedures in place. These policies need to accommodate, assist and protect each and every race, religion and culture as to provide a fair and equal opportunity to all human kind.
The gauntlet for South African managers is dealing with the amount of challenges that come with diversity whilst attaining a positive work climate. Within an organization where diversity plays a role, and this all depends on the degree or percentage, it can prove to be an enormous task prevailing at crucial times. The company strives to be supportive and keep employees motivated with best interests at heart as to retrieve the greatest amount of productivity and effectiveness, all while juggling the wide range of cultures and personalities involved.
In the South African workplace, managers need to learn how to enrich their environment so that it will enable and motivate people to work together and be team players. The manager will want to identify potential among the employees and provide recognition, reward and encouragement. Assuring yourself with a recipe that works, you are able to get one another to relate through respect and understanding towards each other. The first prize being the employees getting along despite their vast cultural differences. A workforce ticking like an old grandfather clock, all in harmony and all in rhythm is the main goal in achieving success.
The South African constitution has provided the rights for different cultures to be protected in the work place. This to prevent any form of discrimination towards an individual whatsoever. The negative influence, and of cause there is always one, is the fact that an employee can sometimes get away with too much and very often this can cause the superior to be undermined. The manager and the managers power relations is the key role player in determining whether his/her influence will be effective, in doing this he/she can build a successful and sustainable organization.
5. (CI) Promotion in an organization
The world economically in itself has become so vast that competitiveness is no longer restricted or bound to a certain country or area in the market place. It is crucial that one has decent (CI) and knowledge concerning the target market and potential target markets. The opportunities are endless if an organization has the upper hand and the understanding of the vast cultural playing field. With ever improving and advancing technology, communicating, buying, selling and shipping abroad has become inevitable.
Promotion of cultural intelligence in the workplace coupled with understanding the concept and focusing on awareness within an entity would prove to be advantageous. The market opportunities expanding at a rapid rate can influence the growth of a company tremendously. Keeping up with the pace will certainly ensure an organizations growth and sustainability. Being aware of what markets to target and what the culture and interests of these markets are, will set the company or organization in the driving seat of global competitiveness.
An organization that have the recourses to purchase, sell and market or supply services abroad is definitely in a better position when it comes to global competitiveness. The ability to obtain resources for instance when including it abroad, widens the purchasing hemisphere dramatically. The more shelves one has to pick off, the more bargaining rights one has, thus improving your chance to stay competitive in the market.
Restricted sales is another example. When one is able to reach all consumers possible no matter where, it broadens the turn over quantities severely and transportation or delivery of goods is no longer an issue due to technology. Not being culturally aware and informed combined with appropriate knowledge could restrict business growth tremendously.

7. Summery
In a time of democracy and equality where discrimination is no longer tolerated, not having sensible cultural intelligence will only restrict the economic growth of organizations and the entire global economy.
Not only is it the most righteous way of living, but the most expanding and profitable manner in which to keep organizations successful and sustainable. Ethnically we all deserve the opportunity to make the best of any situation, to be treated fairly and to have equal rights, despite what our culture entails.
