Yes, people definitely experience the reverse culture shock when they return to their home country. That is because they spend so much time in the host country that their way of living has become like a host country. And when they return to their home country, even though they lived that life in past, they will find it awkward.
We can try following things in order to reduce the effects of culture shock.
- We must try to know as much as possible about the host country in order to reduce the effects of culture shock.
- We must seek advice of international students’ coordinator in our college.
- We can find some distraction like watching our favorite TV show or having a party at home with some friends in order to deal with negative thoughts.
- We can talk to another students and seek some advice how to cope up with culture shock.
- We must try to make new friends from host country. It will definitely help in breaking the ice.
- As an international students, we can engage ourselves in volunteer work so that we can expose more to the local community
- We can read about phases of cultural shock. That way we would know what’s going on and we can deal with it properly.
- We must try to learn local language as soon as possible, it will help to interact with people from local country.
Thus it can be said that each and every student who’s coming abroad to study have to pass through four stages of culture shock. Each and every student must deal with every phases with patience. Experience time and length of each and every phase will be different for different people so, we should not compare ourselves with others. Culture shock is an inevitable thing and everyone has to deal with it.
