Abortion is now more regulated than ever, and many of the restrictions make them safer. “Special Report: The War That Never Ends--Abortion in America; To Come” concludes that a news report stated that abortions took a decline from 21.3 per 1,000 women aged fifteen to forty-four, a decrease of about eight since 1980-1981(“Special”). “In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed in the U.S., down from 1.61 million (the all-time high) in 1990 (“Abortion”). The federal and state government have an impact on the accessibility of abortion and the methods used, and if progressions continue to be made, perhaps the American people will use the logic that pro-choice advocates are always pushing them to use to see that abortions are not the answer for pregnant women. According to Alex K. Rich and Cheryl Bourassa, “We live in a society that recognizes that there are certain circumstances in which killing another member of our species is justified.” Using logic, is not killing another person only justified in cases related to self-defense or penalties for heinous crimes? Subsequently, these advocates justify killing an innocent unborn child with the justifiable killing some one who has already committed crimes deemed punishable by death. There are ample options for women who are pregnant and, for whatever reason, do not want their baby, adoption being a great example. Abortions do not change the past. They can cause mental and physical health problems, and conclusively, abortion is the killing of an innocent life.
