Population

Gorard (2001) opines that population is a group usually of individuals from which a sample can be selected to generate results of a study. The study will therefore cover all female students of the University of Cape Coast.

Sample and Sampling procedure

According to Creswell (2005), a sample is a sub-group of the target population that the researcher plans to study for the purpose of making a generalization about a target population. The sample size for the study will be 400 female students. A simple random sampling technique will be used in the data collection. This will help eliminate any form of bias from the study and to be able to make generalization.

Research Instruments

The instruments that will be used for the study is the questionnaire integrating the likert type scale. The questionnaire will be in two sessions, demography section and the section that will seek to solicit response from students. According to Sidhu (2003), questionnaire is a structured form of questions prepared to elicit responses to certain research questions. The questionnaire is selected because it is the most appropriate instrument in view of the objectives of the study and because respondents are literates. Furthermore, it is more convenient to use the questionnaire since the sample size is considered too large to use interviews or observations and the use of the questionnaire will be less costly in terms of time. The questionnaire is made up of close ended questions in which respondents will be asked to check off the statements.

Validation of the Instrument

To ensure the validity of the construct, the questionnaire will be developed by the researcher and it will be evaluated by the supervisor who will give his or her recommendations to improve the construct and face validity of the instrument. The instrument will therefore be pilot tested to find out if there will be any modification before the final administration at the study area.

Data Collection Procedure

The respondents will be used in various schools to assist in the study and also they will be assured of confidentiality. Copies of the questionnaire will be self-administered to the respondent in their various department and Halls of residence. Data gathering is expected to take one months.

Data Analysis

All the raw data would be keyed into the SPSS 22 program (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 22) and analysed. Descriptive analysis would be used to describe the findings of the data, such as mean, standard deviation, percentage, frequency and tables
