They had finally found an in to arrest Chester for robbery, assault and rape. The police arrested and questioned Chester about the details of the young couple’s allegations. Chester denied his involvement in any of the crimes he was questioned for. The police decided to call Chester’s wife, family as well as the media to witness the interrogation. After countless hours of interrogation, Chester finally confessed to the brutal murder of the three woman. It was later reported that Chester claimed he only confessed because he was bitten and held at gun point by the investigators.
In the days after Chester’s confession, there was a reenactment of the gruesome crime. Chester described how he took one of the woman’s purse where he found a camera. It was reported after he robbed the woman his intentions were to leave them alone as he was only after their cash. Convinced the woman would not report him, Chester intended to leave, one of the woman went after him and that is when he picked up a broken limb of a tree and beat the woman to death. Two of the sheriff’s deputies were reported to have taken the place of the two woman in the reenactment. Chester later stated that he was told what to do and what to say by the police. But the details of the crime given by Chester were overwhelming. He mentioned details such as, the ripped clothing of the woman, the description of the injuries, the weapon he used to beat the woman, and lastly even a major detail about a white and red plain flying over the scene while he was attacking the three woman. The police later checked with the plain company and match the logs time and date to the information Chester had described at the time of the reenactment. There was no doubt Chester was guilty.
According to Video 6, Steve Stout states Chester Weger dishonesty in the case. Weger never wanted to admit he committed the murder against three women in 1960. Weger did not want to admit to the committing of the murders which could give him parole. Stout finds this very strange about the case because Weger is not admitting the truth.
Weger claimed that he was physically abused to claim he did the murder. According the case, there were no bruises or indication that Weger was physically abused. That is the main indication of Weger not being truthful because of the follow up of dishonesty and having the ability to pass a lie detector test with dishonesty.
According to Video 7, Weger admits to the crimes that he claimed he was physically abused to confess to the crime. Weger’s confession of the crimes were more believable than the dishonesty that he continues to believe.
In conclusion, due to poor investigation by the use of lie detectors, Weger’s case is still a mystery on whether he committed the murders or not. Many people have the confusion on whether or not Weger committed the murders. The main problem is convicting someone who may be innocent and not convicting someone who is not innocent. However, the evidence of how Weger explained what he did to commit the crime step by step was an indication that the crime was done by him and along with the human blood. It was evident that back in the 1960s, forensic science and crime investigation was not as advanced as today’s forensic science and crime investigation methods. In the 1960s it was hard to come up with a valid answer of what was done before, after, and during the murder. This case is also an indication that lie detectors can be manipulated.
