Exercise does not just affect your organs and bones; it also effects your blood circulation. While you are exercising your blood flow increases to quickly supply your body with the nutrients it needs. “As you exercise, the blood vessels in your muscles dilate and the blood flow is greater…” (Freudenrich). Another positive effect of exercise on your blood circulation is that exercise can lower your blood pressure (Exercise and Heart Disease). If your blood pressure is too high you are at high risk for many diseases and illness. Exercise also increases the amount of blood vessels in your body. The more blood vessels you have the more places there is for blood to flow. This also results in better circulation (Robinson).Exercise affects both the flow of blood flow and the creation of more blood vessels.

Exercise does not just affect your body physically; it also affects your mental health. Exercise can lower the risk of mental health related disorders. “Exercise reduces risks of depression, insomnia, dementia…” (Exercise and Your Joints) This occurs by releasing “feel good” hormones, such as dopamine, that can generally make you happier and more optimistic (Depression and Anxiety). Exercise is often prescribed for depression, insomnia and anorexia or bulimia patients. Exercise has the ability to take your mind off of any problems or stress occurring in your life. This happens by distracting you from worrying and overthinking to focus more on the training and workout (Depression and Anxiety). Also, while exercising your body temperature increases, which can have a calming effect (Depression and Anxiety).Exercise can even reduce immune system problems that worsen depression (Depressionand Anxiety). As you can tell, exercise has a major impact on our mental state of mind.

Exercise can lower risks of fracturing bones, aching muscles and even some diseases. Exercise increases the strength in your muscles which will leave you less likely to fracture any bones if you were to fall (Exercise Effects on Bones and Muscles) Working out can also improve your balance making you less likely to fall and injure yourself (Exercise Effects on Bones and Muscles). Though many believe it is very easy to hurt yourself by working out, that is not completely true. You are just as likely to injure yourself by slamming a car door on your hand as you are if you were to drop a weight on your foot or trip over a rock while running. Every single day there are risks you take- even a simple thing like making breakfast can result in injury. Why not take that chance on something that benefits your body rather than something that will not have as positive of an effect? Exercise can also help protect your body against diseases. Exercise can reduce the risk of a heart attack and strokes by decreasing the amount of fat covering your arteries and unclogging any plaque buildup (Exercise). Exercise can also decrease your risk of certain types of cancers such as colon cancer and breast cancer. Not only does exercise protect against some of leading causes of death but it also “Protects against diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, osteoporosis…”(Exercise and Your Joints)

In conclusion, exercise is an extremely important factor to living a healthy lifestyle. Exercise helps all areas of the body and mind as well as lowering risks of harmful diseases. Exercise helps your heart, lungs, joints, bones, and even your blood circulation. Exercise can also affect your mental health and lower risks of fractures and diseases. Did you ever think exercise could have such a big impact on your body? As you have probably figured out by now, sitting around watching television all day will not help you in the long run, so maybe next time you find yourself with some free time, ask a friend to go on walk, or try that new spinning class that you’ve had your eye on. Exercise has so many positive effects on your body and will make you feel extremely accomplished afterwards. Stop putting off and get up and go, I promise you will feel so relieved when all is done. What are you waiting for?
