Many people seem to believe that Jackson is no longer a safer place to live anymore because of crime. The best attractions are located downtown and the downtown area is considered to be a safer place because the main Police headquarters is located next to all the main events and there is always police presence the area. Jackson receives most of their crimes in the low poverty area, low economic and unemployment areas.

Growing up in a rough neighborhood leaves so many people baffled as to “Why do neighborhoods have higher crime rates than others and what are some elements that make a community vulnerable to crime?” According to “The Chicago School of Criminology” It introduce the idea that society influences whether a person might become a criminal or not and developed the foundation of Social Disorganization Theory (Buisik, 2012). The Chicago school would show that unemployment and poverty may be some social factors that contribute to criminal behavior. The social disorganization theory states that crime is a major result of unfavorable conditions within a community. When communities are not faced with poverty or unemployment than crime would be low and communities with poverty and unemployment would have a high rate of crime.

Criminologists are interested to discover approaches to answer address and are occupied with why a few individuals perpetrate law violations and others donot. For Criminologists their occupation is to study wrongdoing and discipline. By taking a gander at rates of wrongdoing more than quite a few years, found that the most astounding rates happened in the inward city neighborhoods, and that misconduct rates gradually decreased as you moved outward from the internal city (Shaw and McKay, 1969).

Statistics show lower-class youth commit four times more violent crimes than middle-class youth. The total cost of crime in the U.S. is a $2 trillion per year-$ 1.3 trillion comes from crime and the remainder from economic crimes such as fraud (Jackson Free Press, 2011). Poverty raises the cost of crime by at least $170 billion annually and the victimization costs of street crime are approximately $700 billion per year.

In conclusion, The City of Jackson has a high profile of crime and there are some social factors that contribute to the crime being committed. Some residents are being forced to move farther away to find better jobs while others cannot simply move to better location. The question still remains as to why people continue to commit crime in their neighborhoods? People think more on societal values rather than their own personal values. Crime will always be an all-time issue in the justice system.
