The Demographics of the people in the church were that of, all ages. There was people of all ages together families, couples, and single people. Teens, children, babies, adults, and grandparents. There are three priests and two deacons that work at this church and they alter who runs the masses. There was Hispanics in majority at the mass I went to, but there was Filipinos, and African Americans in attendance. There was a majority of men at the mass, but I did notice that a majority of the single women in attendance were of a younger age group.
I have never believed in someone watching out for me, helping me through life. I've always thought that people will always do what they do because they are molded and taught to be that way, not because a god is out there that created them to be the way they are. I've always been of the opinion that everything I've achieved in my life was because I did it. All the classes I've taken, the choices I've made, it wasn't god sitting at the desk, it wasn't god telling me to say and do things, but looking at these people coming together and legitimately enjoying each others company, truly interested in one another's lives. Listening to them same the same thing every time someone mentioned some kind of achievement that they've reached being followed by "thank god" or "all the glory be to god" and I noticed the smile on their faces as they accepted and believed this, I found myself smiling. Not to make fun of them, no, it was due to the fact that these people radiated warmth and peacefulness, I felt safe. I loved that in the name of their god, they were planning to give food and clothing to the poor, that they openly had invited homeless people to come to the mass. There was about four of them, they were afraid to leave their carts and backpacks outside so the priest told them to trust in the lord and that, make sure someone was watching their things for them, they left everything then, and joined this community of people inside of the church. I chose this religion because I have an aunt and uncle who are devout Catholics, and have raised their children to be the same, in fact one of the deacons from this church came and did the service that is normally done for a quinceniera at their home because he was their friend. They work at the church on their free time, and my cousin is an altar boy, my other cousin sings in the choir. They have been asking me to join them on a Sunday when I had a chance to go for some time and so I decided to do so for this paper. I am so thankful for this opportunity and I think that I will be going a few more times, so as to learn a bit more about this community and the religion they worship. I think that I might have finally had my eyes opened a bit more, I have always thought that I knew the ways of the world but, my uncle and aunt are a very giving couple they host dinners every couple Saturdays and invite their neighbors or their fellow church goers. When I would ask my uncle and his son why they do it, they always reply with, because god wanted them too, and after all why shouldn't they help people relax and have a good time when the rest of their lives might potentially be a tough one. My uncle always says "Never let anyone leave you with anything less than a smile on their face, you don't know their story."
