Dr. John T. Jost is at New York University, New York and is in the Psychology Department as a Co-Director of the Center of Social and Political Behavior. His theoretical perspectives interest is in prejudices, ideology, and stereotyping. He has interest in political psychology, persuasion and social influences, intergroup relationships, an individual’s attitudes, and beliefs, the affects an individual experiences conflict, aggression, and peace, social cognition, and self-identifying (Social Psychology Network, 2016). I read he has published more than 150 publications, has held many positions career and on boards, and holds various prestigious degrees. I found him interesting because of his political psychology and how he uses his social psychology to his advantage in the politics area and yet still have similarities to the other social psychologist I chose.
Conclusion
I learned the true mission of the Social Psychology Network is to promote peace, to research the advancement of Psychology, sustainable living through public educations and social justice for all (Social Psychology Network, 2016).
The importance of understanding theoretical perspectives in social psychology assists in organizing an individual’s ideas, thoughts, and give clarity to relate t other individuals. Being able to understand cultural environments of where individuals are from, the environment they have been raised in, and the diverse customs will only make you stronger as a social psychologist. When researching the social psychology network website this only re-enforced my own beliefs of accepting individuals as they are and the cultures they come from, and knowing there is a social psychology network makes it even more exciting to become a psychologist. The overlapping cultures and theoretic perspectives of the social psychologist I chose taught me there can be similarities and differences in their interest but you must know the culture behind the individual. In research culture diversity is in all relationships and it goes beyond ethnicity, it includes the cultural values, emotions, and belief systems.
