On the other hand, there are some advantages when it comes to living in college housing or apartments and establishing a career. The student has more opportunities for advancement when they live away from home (Kirkendall, Doueck, Saladino, 2009). Students have more access to perspective employers, and students have a better chance of promoting themselves in college housing or apartments (Roemer, Walsh, 2014). Students can link up with people that can get the word out better about them seeking a career. Staying on their own, students are able to branch out and find a career on their own (Kirkendall, Doueck, Saladino, 2009).
Finally, a concept to consider when deciding on whether it is best to stay at home with parents, or move into college housing or an apartment is the financial aspect of everything. Let’s add it all up. Living away from parents, students have the responsibility of paying rent, electricity, phone bills, internet bills, and food expenses, plus tuition (Roemer, Walsh, 2014). Living with parents, students mainly have to focus on their education, with less focus on finances for living arrangements. Staying at home with parents can be very cost efficient (Strom, Strom, 2011). The student does have to worry about the price to commute, but they have less worry about finances than a student that chooses to branch out on their own (Roemer, Walsh, 2014). On the uglier side of things, the decision to move away from home means that the student is out of more money. The student has to deal with a bigger hassle because a long with attending college, the student has to focus more on work because they have to pay bills (Kirkendall, Doueck, Saladino, 2009).
Overall, students that choose to stay at home with their parents are at a better advantage than students that choose to live in student living or apartments. Whether it is staying at home or living away from home during a student’s higher education can be more beneficial to some than others. Some people feel like they will miss out on life when they choose to stay at home with their parents, but overall, they are still entitled to the same opportunities. Students can continue living the way that they were once living, maintain a job, and also focus on their education, without all of the extra stress. Parents are very supportive in a student’s educational goals. Sometimes this is all that the student needs to be successful. By continuing to stay with their parents, the student is able to focus on their career and education at the same time. Living at home is the best advantage because it yields the best support system. Students should continue to live at home until they finish college.
