There may be clients that find it hard to listen or accept my advice based on how I look, the color of my skin, my hair, sex or whatever he or she have in his or her mind about me that they want accept. this is that one time your professionalism comes into play. As clinician it would my duty to assist my clients through the interview process with a clear understanding of what has been discussed. While there are various types of issues for an advisor to assist with in the psychology arena. I believe Drug addiction is the more serious being that it has the ability to ruin whole communities. Kids that are put in these situations where the parent sometimes both parents participate in drug festivities is a major concern of mine. My sister is an addict and have a two small kids that was forced in to the State of Alabama court system. By the time my family found out the kids was already placed in temporary homes. I made a vow to myself to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. In hopes to help my family if ever faced to deal with this type of mental hell again.
There are cases were children are removed from the care of his or her parent or parents because of dangerous drug issues. This is by far the most damaging behavior a parent can possess while having small kids in the home. Learning how to speak and when to speak to client is pivotal. Allowing the client to feel like he or she can trust you is also important. I have the ability to sway people most times. I like to tell short stories about similar situations and let the person I am speaking decide the direction our conversation will take from that point. This usually sets the foundation for our level of trust with one another. I am a good listener and I straight forward when I reply. I need help with controlling my feelings. Depending on the person and the issue, determines which way I may flow with the information given. I often have to check myself on this level because it is so easy to fall into your feelings, especially if you have experienced it.
