For the argument of arguing abortion to be illegalized since it is stealing someone’s right to live, the writer uses inherent virtue. Without regarding the social and economic burden the woman will face, the write evaluates abortion negatively.
The writer mentions that abortion should not be legalized since it might influence future generations are likely to feel numb with their conscience towards abortion. This argument uses the greatest good for the greatest number. If it harms the majority of future generation, abortion is wrong.
Personal Reflection
This article was very interesting because I was able to get an opportunity to face a person who possess an opposing perspective towards abortion. I could know the major reasons why people do not want abortion to be legalized which was very beneficial. Especially the sentence “how can a woman decide whether she wants to continue with her pregnancy when this question is wrong in the first place” made me think about it deeply. For this specific question, it was hard to propose an opposing argument that could explain this question.
However, if was a little confusing because I expected more of a scientific statistic or proved data that would back up the arguments, but the arguments rather seemed a little biased. Some arguments seemed to be a little egoistic about not consider the woman’s stance at all which was a little disappointing about the article.
In my personal opinion, I strongly disagree with the article’s stance. I do believe that abortion should be legalized because it gives more freedom to woman as well as respecting their lives. Especially for young teenagers, they need to give up their right of education and a stable future because of pregnancy. If abortion was illegal, they must drop out of school and care about their baby starting from a young age. This will give them a lot of emotional stress and burden as well as facing negative looks from the society. But if abortion was legalized, it at least gives them an opportunity to choose between a stable future or a respect towards the fetus. For a person who values their future more than the fetus, they will choose to abort their child and go on their lives normally. But for a person who values the life of the fetus more than their future, they will decide to give birth and take responsibility. I think that legalizing abortion opens the choice spectrum and embraces all diverse opinions at the same time.
