Evolutionism Vs Creationism

Due to the fact creationism is religion based it is not testable in the manner that evolutionism is. A popular belief among creationists is that God created complex organisms that are perfectly adapted to their environment (Sober, p. 78). This is evidently not true because no organism is perfectly adapted to their environment. There are countless examples for both humans and animals that prove this, such as why humans have appendixes, or why pandas have thumbs even though both body parts are useless. Creationist’s explanation for the existence of anything is simply that “God did it.” This explanation is not adequate enough in terms of explaining how organisms are designed. Similarly another criticism of this theory is the creationist misinterpretation of the second law of thermodynamics (Sober, p. 70). As Sober states “they claim that this law shows that it is impossible for order to arise from disorder by natural processes” (Sober, p. 70). However what the second law actually states is that closed systems will naturally regress from circumstances of greater order to lesser order (Sober, p. 70). This clear disconnect between what the creationists think the second law of thermodynamics states and what it actually states, only weakens the creationist theory.
Between these two ideologies lies a much more open and scientifically based point of view, the view of theistic evolutionism. Although theistic evolutionism requires a belief in God it also allows for a theological explanation concerning the differences between sexual and asexual reproduction. This belief claims that this God set the evolutionary processes in motion (Sober, p. 69). Rather than ignoring the evidence of evolution and of science, followers of this belief are able to incorporate science and religion in a way that satisfies them. Theistic evolutionists are able to accommodate scientific discrepancies because behind their theory of evolution there is a God outside of time and space that set the whole process in motion, in other words the belief that God created the world in seven days does not exist in the minds of theistic evolutionists.
