times college students fall in to this group, and in my family I feel that I fit into this group perfectly. Reason being because I am very competitive with others, also I am always trying to make better grades in order to not be stuck in the same place my whole life.

The final group is the fatalist, which are described as the elderly, peasants, and the poor and also are many times nonvoters. These people believe that everything is already determined by fate. They are very passive in their attitude. Also their political view is sometimes non-existent because they are nonvoters. In my family I feel that my grandparents would fit in to this category. Reason being that may less eager to do something to better themselves because of their age.

Lakoff’s theory is that people think of the nation as a family. There are two different family types the strict father family and the nurturant parent family. The strict father family is the traditional nuclear family and is father centered with the male being the authority and the female being the house keeper. This family also believes that bad people lack self-reliance and discipline and that the government is to protect individual rights, promote self-reliance, and punish failures. The dynamic of this family is that the children give the father respect and he gives them rewards and punishment. The mother acts as the caretaker of the children and also helps uphold the father’s authority. This family also is conservative in their political view. This is the type of family that I view my household as.

The second family model is the nurturant that is full of love, empathy, and very nurturing, and is also mother centered. They see all children born well and need to be supported in the world, also they few bad people as lacking empathy and compassion. Nurturant families also want the government to help the poor and anyone who may need help to promote the common good.

With society today I feel that more families should be a strict father family. I feel that growing up this house hold it teaches you respect and discipline. I also think that this family will make a person work harder to achieve something because they aren’t being nurtured there whole lives. Also in strict family children are taught right from wrong and also learn rules and respect for authority. Rather having rules and authority being based on love and respect for others. Overall I feel that both families are able to produce a successful child but I think that a child is better off coming from a strict father family.

Finally, after doing this research I was able to learn that I fit in two different grid-groups, hierarchist and individualist. Also after some research I felt that the reason that I fit in to each of these different groups was because of the type of family that I come from, which is a strict father family. A person will find his or her group that they fit because of the family they come from. The reason being because each family will teach the children there values. Mary Douglas Grid-Group theory and Lakoff’s theory of moral politics help build off each other.
