Measuring with the Vernier caliper
Objective.
The objective of this practice is to learn how to use the Vernier caliper, and how to interpret the measures given by that. The way to learn it is using the Vernier caliper to measure several objects, interpret the given magnitudes and then contrast that information with measures from a common ruler.
Introduction.
The Vernier caliper is a very accurate (precise) measuring instrument. It only has a reading error of 0.05mm.. It has existed since the ancient China (Quin Dynasty), but the secondary scale that gave more precision to this instrument was invented in 1631 by the French mathematician Pierre Vernier.
Vernier caliper always outputs measurements readings up to two decimals. It does the Vernier caliper more precise than other instruments.
In order to obtain the measured value, it is divided by the two parts: Main scale (it gives the two main digits of the measure), and the Vernier scale (the one that gives the second decimal for the measurement and the one that does the Vernier caliper more precise).

Procedure.
1 – All materials from a) to f) were measured in terms of three aspects: external diameter (length), internal diameter (width) and depth –in most of the cases –.
2 – Materials from a) to f) were measured with the Vernier caliper.
3 – Materials from a) to d) were measured first with the Vernier caliper and then with a ruler.
4 –The results of the measurements with the ruler and the Vernier caliper were written down to make a comparison for the precision.
Observations.
There are tables with the registered data.
For this, we measured a cube from different positions, giving us this six different measures of the sides of the cube.

In order to determine the diameter of an sphere, it was measured six times, but all these measures were equal. The diameter of the sphere is exactly 2.23cm

This was a practice for how to use the Vernier Caliper. The measures of several objects were registered to compare, and contrast between the precision of the metric ruler and the Vernier Caliper.
