Survey Report

I conducted a survey of 16 UTSA students from September 2nd throughout October 8th asking if they approved or disapproved the Texas voter ID law. The majority of survey participants, 75% approved the Texas voter ID law. The margin of error is 24.49, the percentage approving of the law can be expected to fall 50.51%-99.49% of the time. The results of the survey are not statistically significant because of the margin of error and the low end of the 95% Confidence Interval was 50.51%. It is not statistically significant because I only surveyed a small portion of the UTSA student population of 29000. To make the results statistically significant I could have asked a lot more students. The weaknesses of the survey could have been the timing of when the question was asked, Some of the participants were on their way to a class when I asked, they could’ve been in a rush and distracted when I asked. Some were unaware of the law and asked for an explanation, they might have not fully understood. The sample size definitely was a weakness because I only asked a tiny portion of UTSA students. If I did this survey again I would ask more people, I would also give them more information and would ask at a better time, maybe after they finished lunch instead of when they were rushing to class.
