In the Catholic faith there are not many dietary laws and the ones that they do have are not strongly enforced. The most known dietary law would be not eating meat on Fridays, this law is observed on Good Friday and any Friday during lent, as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice. The natural replacement for meat on these days is fish which has brought on many theories as to why Catholics chose to give up meat on Fridays. One of theses theories is that the Roman Catholic Church was attempting to rejuvenate the failing fishing industry in Europe.(Godoy,2012) The other law is not to eat an hour before receiving the Eucharist, some exceptions are you may have water and medicine within an hour, if the priest is saying multiple masses in a day he can eat in between the masses and the elderly and ones who are suffering from illness as well as the people who are taking care of them. As can be seen here the Catholic faith does not put as much emphasis towards their diets as the other two largest religions in the world
As you can see there are many different laws in these three faiths and that all three of them practice different things but also share much in common. The dietary laws may not be the most exciting law to cover but it is important to gain a better understanding of these laws in order to continue to grow and respect people of all different faiths.
