Fruit and flowers festival

The Festival of Flowers and Fruits is a popular celebration, which takes place approximately every February or March of each year in the province of Tungurahua (Ambato-Ecuador).

The Festival of Fruits and Flowers is known as one of the most beautiful festivals around the country. It is the commemoration of the loss suffered by the inhabitants of the city following the earthquake of August 5, 1949

The name of the party is due to the great local fruitful and floral production that coincides with the first months of the year. It is worth noting that in the city of Ambato, which has a high cultural level, it has been prohibited to play games with water, flour, powder, eggs, carnival foams and other products characteristic of the carnival that invade the space in other neighboring towns staff of the tourist.

Origin of the Festival of the Flowers and the Fruits

After the earthquake that occurred on August 5, 1949, in the city of Ambato, which devastated a large part of the city and its inhabitants, the people sought to reactivate themselves and put aside this event, so that the partners of the Cantonal Agricultural Center were the main axis of the organization of the first party that took place the 17 of February of 1951.

1951 was the starting point. The party was performed with unique characteristics by its content; aroma of fruits, perfume of flowers, beauty of their women, manifestations of art, cultivation of traditions; all on a basis of solidarity, respect and enthusiasm that placed Ambato on a pedestal of cultural development.

The festival was then a manifestation of the will of the people of the country, who accepted the price proposed by nature to the beauty and fecundity granted to these lands, arose with fervor and enthusiasm in search of tangible answers to the damage suffered.

It was in 1962, and through Executive Decree No. 586, the National Government declared to the Fruit and Flower Festival, a national celebration.

Year after year, the intensity of the party was increasing, several elements have been incorporated and the waste of joy and healthy fun was easily impregnated in ambateños and tourists; there was no one to escape the rejoicing.

Tradition

Not before every year is the party inaugurated with a certain slogan, which encourages the population to value the city.
