film left us in

awe. Uprightness was shown greatly in the film when waris stood up for the greater

good by opening up about female genital mutilation to the world, she wanted the

practice to stop because it is being pointless and it may lead to death. Justifying that

she loves her family and her country she took a stand and said that the senseless

tradition is being continued even though it isn’t written in the quran that women that are

not circumcised are not clean. She made it clear for what she stands for and she is not

ashamed.

Leadership in the film is shown primarily in the last part when Waris started

speaking up about what happened to her. In some scenes in the film, Waris was shown

as a potential leader, she loved the people around her, she is shown to have sympathy

and as a very understanding person. After the events of the film she continued onto

being a leader. Waris became a UN ambassador and through the years she became

prominent figure in the world, she received many awards she became a peace

ambassador. She founded organizations that focused mainly on female genital

mutilation.

The spirituality that is shown in the film is a deciding factor for Waris. Her religion

was one of the things that made Waris think deeply about her decisions in life. Her

family says that it is the tradition of their religion, that’s why she is forced to be

circumcised. Her grandmother also says that everything that happened to Waris is

“Allah’s will”, she also said that people will try to change her in london. Implicating that

her grandmother doesn’t want her to lose her way and want her to stay connected to the

Allah.

The film is a total package that deserve countless awards. I’d recommend that it

should be watch by students like me and people that need deeper understanding to our

hidden environment because it gives us social awareness and good morals. The film is

a one of kind, a masterpiece of it’s time. This film will be one of my favorite films.
