Indians, and France. The Indians, while not being on good terms with the colonists, joins forces with the French and agrees to attack them which gets known as the Deerfield Massacre. This attack on New England left them highly devastated and in need of help economically, emotionally, socially, and every way possible. Even though not that many people were killed it was the mental message that was left of basically ‘now you have an enemy’. And while they were battling this, here comes England later on and creates the Boston Massacre and kills few people as well over in Boston. The colonists were being attacked from all different ways from all angles it seems while they were trying to gather their independence from Britain. In no means were the British trying to make this easy for the colonists.
The US was constantly kept down by every other country that it was in competition with and that was Britain’s main goal. Britain tried to keep the US down economically by passing so many acts that have very high taxes within them. With the Navigation Acts that were passed made England in charge of the trade ports and if the colonies wanted to use them they had to pay a tax and if they were to use the ports they also had to use british ships. This made it to where they had to pay even more tax just to get a boat in order to ship their goods, materials, and textiles for sale. After this, a bunch of other crazy acts were passed like the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act, and the Quartering Act. This really did hurt the colonists economy because they were spending more money on taxes than they were getting from selling / trading goods. These new laws was to keep Britain rich and to keep the US under their control and for the most part, until they rebelled, it worked because of promises of keeping them safe from the Natives.
England’s military played a big part in trying to keep the US from getting their independence. They were the one’s who went over to the US and mainly enforced / made sure that everyone in the New World followed the laws that were given. They also went there to collect the taxes and give messages that the Parliament or the King have issued. Along with them doing as such, they also provided “protection” for the colonists from the Natives incase they tried to attack. So they made them pay up taxes in return, their safety. Of course they did the main attacks like the Boston Massacre and other harmful crimes towards the colonists. The military definitely kept the US in a minimum kind of state within their progress by not only telling them what to do but making them do it by using violent methods.
The courts within the governments and the parliament kept the US down by the way they were ran. The courts didn’t have a jury so all of the decisions that were made were issued by the people in power. That wasn’t a fair trial and England did it a lot to the colonists by giving them trials without a jury to purposely commit them guilty for crimes. So this set back the US from trying to have their own proper government or democracy for a little bit of time. But it wasn’t enough to keep them from achieving their independence. Even though Britain and other countries tried to keep the US don a lot during their time of actually coming up, they kept going and struggling to get their independence and in the end it worked out for them. They resulted in great country growth by fighting for their freedom from England everyday they could.
