As dreams help a person reveal his true self, dreams also enable the person to discover his ultimate purpose in life. An individual can only state to himself what his life goals are if he has accepted his genuine self. After the father rediscovers his need to be with his loved ones, he becomes more inspired to be the best father he can be, that is someone who can provide not only food, shelter and clothing but also affection, guidance and wisdom. He is able to do all these because his dream is the driving force that continually reminds him of his purpose in life.
While dreams are often associated with imagination and fantasy, they are not necessarily useless in everyday life. Dreams may provide hints as to what one wants to achieve in his life. Desires that may be considered unrealistic or those that challenge existing moral or social standards find their expression through an individual’s dreams. Moreover, dreams can help a person discover aspects of himself that he may not know, if he were to rely solely on his waking experiences. It is only when one is in touch with the yearnings of his unconscious can a person claim that he knows his true self. Lastly, since understanding one’s dreams enable a person to strike a balance between his waking life and his unconscious, he achieves wholeness and is able to clearly identify his mission in life. Thus, though dreams are intangible visions, when understood more clearly, they can lead to tangible achievements.
