Music is very influential in society today, it is present in almost every part of our lives. Where words fail music speaks, music has the power to change the world and people. There are a lot of people when they are in a particular mood they prefer to listen to a certain song. Khalid speaks of how popularity separated the social differences between the both, but although there was a “distance,” he still felt an intimate connection to the person he was in love with. No matter the circumstances the person put him through, he kept his love strong and true. This references how strong the intimate feelings overtook his heart even though he knew he wasn’t as “popular” as the girl was. Music does more than just gives someone a tune to listen to. It can carry across messages deep in the roots of affection and love to not only perceive messages, but also spread them and enrich someone else of their inner emotion and thoughts. This song does not only connect feeling of doing things for the person you love even though you don’t want to. It also creates a flow of in depth imagination of feeling at peace with doing what would be meaningful to those of whom influence and connect with the listener.
The repetitive “keep me alive” symbolizes uplifting Khalid’s emotion and keeping him positive and connected mentally. Spiritually, he feels like he wants the girl he speaks of connected with him no matter how far apart they are. By the end of the song, he talks about how the girl he once loved found a new lover. However, he feels that the past feelings he had with her should not dissipate just because they are not together anymore. This could connect to the feeling of everlasting affection between two people that have separated. Music like this tells not only a story, but also could connect to someone who may have been going through, or is going through what he is going through. Khalid’s lyrics are an example of how an artist could take his or her ideas or feelings and create a mental picture to the listener. This mental picture does not only help influence the listener to connect, but it also illustrates unique wordplay and sentence structure.
Songs connect with emotions and feelings that may seem untouchable to someone’s basic thought. It takes specific use of imagery and descriptive writing to really connect the listener to the message the artist is trying to connect the listener to. Khalid exhilarated a perfect example for how love can affect someone not only a day, but possibly a lifetime. For the one’s you love, you want to never be forgotten. Especially the good memories you build with them.
