Some estimates say that our fossil fuel reserves will be depleted within 50 to 120 years; the need of alternative energy solutions is critical to our survival. With population growing towards nine billion people over the next 50 years, the world’s energy demands will increase proportionately. With solar energy, the sun provides enough energy that can be stored for use long after the sun has sets and even during extended cloudy period. Solar power continues to prove effective with some estimating that it could provide energy for more than one billion people by 2020 and 26 percent of global energy needs by 2040.
A memorandum of understanding was signed last year by the Defense Secretary to encourage renewable energy generation on areas that have been historically restricted to military use. The purpose of this is to attract private developers and investors to build solar, wind and other renewal energy projects. This is one of many initiatives to drive others towards solar energy solutions to increase availability and minimize start up costs for the consumer. The technology will become more accessible with time allowing for less dependency on fossil fuels.
The need for an alternative energy solution is critical for our survival. Solar energy provides a reliable, self-sustained alternative for energy in the United States. It would eliminate our dependency in foreign countries and allow for cleaner environment for future generations. Imagine the possibilities if every American household had access to solar power?
