Research Questions

I am always interested in music and culture our beloved country. I have a keen interest in the influences of American Music in our culture since I have been an American Music lover myself. I always wanted to know whether people like American music and what’s the reason behind it.

I also wanted to ensure whether people listen to American Music all the time or they just listen occasionally. I also think it would be very interesting how much they want to rate American music in a meter of ten. It would give me a real knowledge about their likings.

There is ever running debate whether American music is influencing our culture? And if so is it a good way? I really want to know the appropriate answer and the reason behind it.

It would be very interesting to know if people think American music is really worth to follow. What they think of following the lifestyle and style statements of American Musician.

I would also like to discover whether people prefer the country’s musical instrument like dhol, flute or they prefer foreign music instrument like guitar, drums and others. It would show their likings of western based music or eastern based music of our country. Lastly, I want to find all the answers about the influences of American Music in our culture by linking from all the answer.

Hypothesis

I have a thought that Bangladeshi people like the American music. They would love their rich culture to be more enriched by American music. I hope to find that the influence of American Music is improving our culture.

In my research I hope to get the ever-debating result about influence of American Music. I think people will acknowledge the influence of American Music in our culture. They will also happily realize the improvement made by the influence of American Music for our culture. People also prefer influenced music more than the traditional music. I really keen to find many similarities between our music and American Music. I expect to find the people are attracted by the changes made by the American music like new kind of music such as hip-hop, metal, rock, and so on. I also think people will like the changes made by American Music. I hoped to find that people think American music worth every bit to follow and people find the musician inspirational. Lastly, I think I will get the positive review by the people for the research on American Music and end the decades of debate about the Influence of American Music

Research Methodology

To know the outcome of my research and prove the hypothesis I had decided to follow some steps. I did interview, survey and of course I took help of online related resources like interview of artiste, articles, and blogs.

For primary research, I surveyed on general people. Then I interviewed the people who are mad and passionate about music and always keep themselves up to date to the world of music. I used varieties of questions for the questionnaire and I will get the answer from the different types of people. My target group of the research was the young minds as they keep up to date with the music and they are the future flag holder of our culture. I surveyed 18 people and there were 14 male and 4 female. I tried to survey the people who like to listen to music.

As for the secondary research I used online resources as this is an era of internet. I watched many videos of artistes and so I read them. I try to gather their thoughts. I also read various personal blogs and I also read articles related to the American music.

Data Presentation and Analysis

The results of the research are quite different from what I thought at the beginning. Though what I believe is partially similar but ultimately whole result was quite different from my expectations. I found out that people like American music and my thought was no different from it. The majority of my surveyed people said about their likings of American music (Appendix figure no.1).

In figure 1, we can observe that almost all the people like the American music and some of them even considered it as the best music of the world. Seeing the chart there might be debate whether people think American music is the best or not. But, there is no question about the liking of American Music.

From the chart, we can easily found that Bengali people like music of America. But, after discovering their fondness about American music, the question that comes to our mind is that why they like American music. I also asked them about the reasons behind their answer. Many told that they like the lyrics. They think they are unique and different. Many of them like it because of its unique tunes and American Musician do not copy from others. But, what I observe from their answers is that they mostly like American music because of its versatility. Because some of them like rock, some like metal, some like rap and so on. One of the people I surveyed said about the reason he like American music is that “lyrics, music composition and genres are the most versatile and catchy” (2013). Since most of the people of our country like American Music, so there is great possibility that they end up getting influence by it. Many upcoming musicians would end up following it and there is a big chance that American Music can keep an influence on our music.

From the figure 1, it is proven that people like American Music. But, now the question comes to our mind that how much they like it and how much they listen to it. If Bengali people do not listen to the American Music often there is big change that they are just end up liking it rather than also influencing our culture.

From the figure 2, we can see the lion’s share of the music lovers listen to the American music daily. Almost seventy-five percent people listen to American music on daily. Others listen to it about two-three times a week. It shows that music lovers love to hear
