Reading both stories will touch your heart and either story a reader will see themselves inside of one them. Reading “Two Kinds” they can see their own parent pushing them to apply themselves to a sport of instrument that they struggle in and assist them by paying for practices or tutor lessons “...my mother had traded housecleaning services for weekly lessons and a piano for me to practice on every day...”(pg.1120 sect. 30) Reading “The Lesson” then there are the readers that may not have a parent pushing them and feel as if that is the norm. They could have a mentor that sees the potential in them and want to see them elevate beyond their current status. A parent that gives their child a tool to help them become better such as June’s mother getting her a piano for her house “By then my parents had saved up enough to buy me a secondhand piano, a black Wurlitzer spinet with a scarred bench.”(pg. 1121 section 45) A mentor that sees the interest in a child to learn as Miss Moore had seen in the kids with the willingness to teach to the youth “ So here go Miss Moore gabbing about the thousands of bacteria in a drop of water and the somethinorother (is this a word) in a speck of blood and the million and one living things in the air around us is invisible to the naked eye.”(pg. 656 section 10)

Children are dry sponges as knowledge is to water. June and Sylvia have both been through life changing experiences in their youth. June and Sylvia both went through a struggle whether it were an internal like June not feeling as if she was “genius” enough to please her mother or in Sylvia's case an external struggle caused by social injustice stricken by poverty with the means to pursue happiness. Given the proper guidance you can see the young ladies able to perform at their best where June was given a piano to practice on but even though she failed at the talent show she still learned to play the piano and Sylvia given the task to calculate a tip of ten percent of a cab fare. Many people are able to relate to either story whether it's “The Lesson” where there are outside sources of help trying to education while guide them to the best results and “Two Kinds” where a parent is aiding by provides encouragement with supplies. Every and any kind of person can learn a great lesson! ( Every and any kind are basically the same word choose one of two)
