the athletes have much more that they need to pay.If they were to get a job there would not be enough time in the day for them to be able to do everything they need to, something would have to be sacrificed. They could lose their scholarship and not be able to play their sports, if they do not maintain their high grades. Nowadays less money is being used for athletic scholarships and the NCAA is wasting all their funds on the athletic department revenues instead of helping their athletes. Even if college athletes were given $100,000 as a salary after paying off all their other school expenses and personal expenses, they could have less than $100 left over. Having only a hundred-dollars left over after all the work they do is not enough to cover anything, even if they save their money over time . In 2016, the NCAA March Madness got over 34 million views, while the NBA finals only got 20.2 million views. The athletes of the NBA got paid around $20 million for playing and the team that won got an added bonus from 30%-50%, while the college game got more views and the players did not even see a dime. College athletes are getting more views but not getting paid for it while professionals are making over $20 million and not getting the same amount of views as the college athletes.
One possible solution that would solve these concerns are to allow college athletes to take endorsements. If the athletes were allowed to take endorsements, they could start to make a name for themselves in the professional world and create more popularity for the college they are attending. An issue that may present itself over time is that the athletes may get caught up in all the fame they are receiving. This can work as a solution because if the players or team gets endorsed by a company that can pay them a decent amount for doing a commercial or something, they will start to be recognized in by some professional team that may see what they are doing and keep up with them to see if they could be on their team once they graduate. “Let athletes benefit from their fame and likeness like every other student at our colleges and universities. (...) you allow other professions to take endorsements that help with their careers then why can’t athletes do it too, so the money they do get can come from how good they are and how hard they work plus it can even help the face of the college or university”(Reed).
College athletes should be paid for all the hard work they put into their sport and in too earning their degree. College athletes should be paid for all the work they do and time that they take take into consideration to make sure that all their school work gets done. Even after all the paperwork that states that you will have to cover the rest of your expenses and you will not be getting paid the athletes still choose to play their sport and continue their dreams of becoming professionals one day. The math might not fully add up at first but over time it will all even out, even if personal expenses get higher.
